Most of us did not know that wearing sunglasses keep our pupil wide open. And therefore, it increases further possibility that the UV rays to directly hit our eyes. It may cause more harm so we should use polarized sunglasses which is more assured that we are 100% protection from UVA / UVB rays. Here is the reason:

Polarized sunglasses are the blocking horizontal glare that removes the excess of reflection from the sun that gives more detailed image. The striking reflections on a flat surface is horizontally polarized and polarized lenses has a vertical polarization which is why more clearly see the details of each miss your vision.

But, despite this, there are some drawbacks to its use. Polarized lens is design to block horizontal light, to reduce glare on reflective surfaces like glass or water, for improved comfort under the sun.

As your TV, computer or Smartphone screen emit light, the lens block the horizontal light. This causes artifacts and if you rotate your head you will experience different visual effect. Also, effect can be more or less important depending on screen technology.

It also causes rainbow effect due to light decomposition thru the polarized filter, because different colors have different wavelength. As general rules, it is preferable to do not wear polarized sunglasses to watch screens.

In terms of protection, it is really recommended to use polarized sunglasses for protection for your eyesight.
